OLD ABBEY HOUSE HOTEL – DESIGNING A GRADE II LISTED GEM
DISCOVER OUR LATEST HOTEL DESIGNS WITH EDE HOMES IN ABINGDON-ON-THAMES
We’re proud to present our latest project, where our brief was to breathe new life into the rooms of Old Abbey House Hotel, a newly refurbished Grade II listed gem, which has been transformed into a new self-check-in hotel by Ede Homes. Originally the residence of the Mayor of Abingdon, the hotel is an ode to the past, present and future of the traditional market town of Abingdon-on-Thames in Oxfordshire.
A TRUE HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Within this 18th Century building combines historical charm and character with the modern convenience and technology of the 21st Century. The client wanted us to create a hotel with a boutique feel through the design, revealing a unique story to guests through its individual rooms. From cosy retreats to spacious suites, our designers worked their graft to create a harmonious blend of old and new, ensuring that every stay at the hotel is an unforgettable experience through this captivating fusion of tradition and innovation. Whether you are a couple in search of a romantic retreat, a history enthusiast eager to explore the past, or a family looking for an enriching experience, this hotel provides the perfect haven.

What do you think? Let’s delve into a few of the rooms we’ve designed
Bringing in Warmth with Panoramic Views of Abbey Gardens
The concept behind this room was to create a harmonious integration of its interior and the painting-like exterior panorama of Abbey Gardens outside, framed through large bay windows. Through the infusion of soft pastel tones, oranges and pinks, our designers have evoked a sense of warmth and vivacity which is welcoming and peaceful for your stay.
Fiery Reds &
Rich Greens for a Luxurious Feel
With the addition of an original fireplace, an inviting atmosphere was created in another one of the unique rooms through deep reds and rich greens on the beds and feature chairs with velvet touch. This plays homage to the hotel's history, adding a luxurious feel.

Creating Peaceful Moments through Ocean-Inspired Tones
Wanting to bring peaceful features to this room, touches of blue were brought in through delicate tiling and soft furnishings, with our designer’s inspiration as the beautiful sea and ocean-inspired colours. Inspiration was even taken from the existing fireplace, incorporating tiles which enhance its organic shape.
Did you know some of our furniture pieces can be purchased on our sister brand, Bazaar?
This armchair is featured in another of the 19 rooms we designed, adding a dash of an eclectic style through muted tones. This room is a truly private haven, located on a floor of its own. The wardrobes were sourced from VInterior, amplifying the antique charm of the space whilst a mix of textures oozes a true feel of modern comfort which continues throughout the rest of Old Abbey House Hotel.
